Stitches West Update…

…Finally! Well, here it is, my pictures and impressions from Stitches West. Not one picture of the event though. I felt too intimidated to take pictures. Pictures were banned in the Market and none got taken at either of my classes. Oh well. The first class was with Melissa Leapman on designing. She’s a great instructor and I encourage any and all to take a class with her if you get a chance. The class was lecture only, there wasn’t any knitting going on unless you were knitting on another project (which I was). Lots of good information, like swatch, swatch, swatch, measure, measure, measure. Most of it was common sense and things I knew but I always enjoy refresher courses and this one was very enjoyable. Even though we just listened and watched it wasn’t boring.

The other class I took was using software for designing with Ginger Luter. Another great class with another wonderful instructor. You can tell Ginger enjoys teaching. Now I feel better equiped to use the software I bought last year. Denise took the freeform knitting class and got quite a bit from it.

The Market was fun & overwhelming! We both decided the Alpaca (anybody’s Alpaca) was the softest yarn in the Market. I bought two pounds of Henry’s Attic Alpaca from Yarn Barn. Another fabulous yarn was/is Seacell and we both had to get a skein. One only because we couldn’t afford more than that at over $36 a skein. Next on my list was some yarn to knit another scarf. Love that pattern!

I finally got the Opal Tiger sock yarn! And two skeins of Socks That Rock! The picture on the right is the completed scarf.

Last, but not least, is the great buy I got from Webs. A bag of Silver Thaw for less than half what I would have paid at my lys.

To show everyone how dedicated Denise and I were about driving to Stitches West here’s a picture of the snow taken just before I got in the car to drive to Denise’s house. The roads were clear and not too bad to drive on. The worst spot was getting out of Denise’s driveway where I almost got stuck. :o

I also enjoyed Stitches West but have never understood the “No Pictures” rule in the Market area. I like to take pictures for inspiration and information. I have taken pictures of yarn labels that I would like to purchase someday but may not have enough money or room in the car for all I would like. Pictures in the various Blogs would also serve as advertisements to entice other knitters to attend. Oh well. I also enjoyed the classes and found some fibers I couldn’t live without.
I am sorry that you are in the process of a move. Even if it is what you want, moving everything can be a daunting task. Good luck.

Thank you for the encouraging words about teaching the sock class. I would like to take you up on the generic sock pattern. I know that not everyone will have a sock book and it would be nice to offer them a pattern to follow. Thank you for your generosity. I talked with Sonja today to finalize my plan for the class, and so now we will see if anyone wants to take it.
