Fingerless Mitts
This is a basic pattern for fingerless mitts based on my generic sock pattern. The yarn used is a discontinued sock yarn from Knit Picks.
Fingerless Mitts
Yarn: DK weight yarn, 100 grams, 10″ length of waste yarn of similar weight to main yarn.
Needles: one set of double pointed needles or two 16″-24″ circular needles size US 5.0 – 3.75mm
Notions: Tapestry needle, basic knitting supplies.
Gauge: 6.5-7 st/inch
Abbreviations: k – knit, p-purl, st st – stockinette stitch, sl – slip, rnd – round, st – stitch(es), dpn – double pointed needles
Using long-tail method cast on 48 stitches. Divide stitches evenly over needles. If using a set of 5 dpn you will have 12 stitches on 4 needles. If using a set of 4 dpn you will have 12 stitches on two needles and 24 stitches on one needle. If using two circular needles you will have 24 stitches on each needle.
Join work being careful not to twist your stitches. Place marker to mark beginning of round. Work k2p2 rib for 3″.
Work st st for 2.5″ above ribbing.

Thumb: (Same for both hands) Carefully remove waste yarn and pick up 7 st below using one needle, 6 st above plus 1 st on each end using another needle – 15 st total. Distribute st evenly among needles and knit one rnd picking up 1 st at each side of base of thumb, twisting those st – 17 st total. Knit in the rnd for 1″. Bind off loosely.
